Jonathan Chou

Chou's Lil-Stories

Standing at gunpoint for something unknown

Standing feeling helpless, What should I do plea for help

Thinking the BOOM, then sharp missile piercing my skull

Hearing the footsteps of the intruder who put me in this cast

He enters, the shadowy figure shrouded in black and a rotten stench

With knife up high he slashes down missing by an inch

Surrounded by strange people

What happened after I was knocked out

Who are they are only one of the questions I'm asking myself before the incident

We stand stagnant in the same room with the same set of fake abs looking weird

I planned out the whole thing perfectly

Now with nothing to do, we sit feeling like our dogs just died

I hear a thumping noise and car horns but think nothing of it

Then a polar bear comes rushing into me and my stand

I duck for cover now out of a job

Refugee

A war between communist and nationalist losing fled to Taiwan

Thinking to regroup couldn't defeat communist

In 1949 my great grandfather became a refugee,

He painted the daily struggles of a refugee

People on the way to Taiwan carried only the essentials

To flee the communist who made over 2 million people refugees

Families were separated, people starved, and homes were lost

That was only part of the hardship of a refugee

Through long trek killed many people

Boats were made to help get communist China to get away from refugees

Mao Zedong forced the Nationalist to flee

Leaving mainland China setting up a new home in Taiwan as the refugees

The painting is empowering to be able to reflect this hard time

They are his memories of being a refugee

A monumental 138 ft long painting of ink on paper

He has opened up to the world about his time as a refugee

At over six feet tall

It is a human portrayal of what was left of the refuges

This is what I, Jonathan am

I am a refugee
